I thought that all wines in Ontario had to be purchased through the LCBO. How do you do it?

In Ontario, all wines must be purchased “through” the LCBO but not all wines make it to LCBO retail shelves. In fact, of the approx. 12,000 types available in Ontario about 5,000 are in LCBO retail outlets. The remainder of the wines is sold through a community of independent wine agents that often sell only to restaurants, hotels, private clubs, etc or wine clubs that buy for their members.

Why doesn’t the LCBO sell these wines?

Think of the LCBO like any other major retailer with over 650 locations around Ontario. Like all major retailers, the LCBO must buy product that, among other things, can satisfy volume requirements for the entire province and fits inside their own buying criteria. Not all wineries can produce this volume, and many who can choose not to sell through this retailer. That means, however, that some of the best boutique wineries in the world never make it on to LCBO shelves. We make many of these wines available to you.

What does the Adelaide Club Wine Service subscription consist of?

The Adelaide Club Wine Service is subscription based meaning that members receive wine on a recurring basis. Subscribers will receive a case of wine every month until the subscription to the service is cancelled. The case of wine consists of a 6 bottle pack of wine, 3 different wines, 2 bottles of each. The case will always contain 1 red, 1 white and 1 wine that is at the discretion of the Master Sommelier and often based on the season. the Adelaide Club Wine Service subscription will also give you access to special events such as wine tasting from time to time.

Can I request specific wine brands, varietals or countries?

We cannot meet these conditions as part of your wine service. However, if there are particular wines or special items you’re looking for, we will be happy to research and hopefully acquire them for you as a benefit of your subscription.

Can I use the Adelaide Club Wine Service to purchase wine for my restaurant?

Unfortunately, the LCBO restricts wine club purchases to those who will consume the product personally and not use it for resale purposes.

How much does the Adelaide Club Wine Service cost and what forms of payment are accepted?

You will need to pay your last case as a deposit when you sign-up ($175 plus HST). A recurring charge ($175 plus HST) will be processed on your credit card the first of each month until you choose to cancel your subscription. We will also be charging the cost of delivery which will vary depending on the delivery address provided. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. All this information is captured over the phone and kept confidential. On your credit card statement, the monthly charge will show as "Vin de Garde Wine Club".

Why do I have to pay for my last case?

The last case is used as a deposit. This allows us to buy the wines on behalf of all the subscribers. Under Ontario’s regulations, all products must be paid in full prior to being shipped. The deposit will be used to cover your last case. Only the delivery will be charged for the last month.

Are subscribers buying wine at a discount?

No. The LCBO does not allow wine to be discounted in any way other than through their retail outlets.

What is my minimum time commitment?

There is no minimum time commitment. Stay as long as you’re satisfied. Subscribers are set to receive a case of wine every month until the subscription to the service is cancelled.

What if I want more than 1 case of wine (6 bottles)?

Some customers entertain more so they want two-three cases each month with a total of 12-18 wines. It is possible to receive more than 1 case per month. Take note that we send the same wines to all subscribers. If you order 2 cases, you will be receiving 4 bottles of the same wine. Specify during the phone conversation at the time of sign-up or by email at [email protected]

When should I expect my first case of wine?

Payment of deposit and first case must have been processed and accepted prior to ship the case of wine. We will be sending you a delivery notice reminder email a couple of days prior to delivery. Cases will be shipped through Canada Post and shipment can be expected to be received at some point during the 3rd full week of the month. It normally takes 2 to 3 business days if your delivery address is located in the GTA or around major delivery routes. If your delivery address is located in a rural area or further out major delivery routes, it can take as much as 3 to 5 business days. Take note that we cannot guarantee the time of arrival. For the most part, deliveries are between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. If someone is not there to accept the delivery, Canada Post will leave a note at the door with details of the nearest counter where the case can be picked up.

What if I’m not home to accept a delivery?

The best option is to take delivery to your office where you know someone can sign at any time of the day. Take note that we are not allowed to leave a case of wine outside or without a signature, so delivery to your office is preferable unless you have someone staff at home on a consistent basis. Should no one who is legally able to sign for the package be at home, Canada Post will leave a card allowing you to pick up your case at a location convenient to your home.

Delivery to a friend or neighbour is also an option. The third option for you is to pick up at one of our two facilities.

Why is a signature required?

When alcoholic beverages are delivered in Ontario, shipment can’t be left outside or without an adult signature for safety. In addition, the person receiving delivery may be required to show identification proving age of majority.

What is the guarantee if a bottle in my wine is damaged?

When you receive your case, take the time to examine the case for any apparent damage. If there is damage to one of the bottles you may see physical damaged to the case. In the unlikely event you receive a bottle that is damaged, please indicate on the delivery receipt from Canada Post. If you discover damage after the delivery occurred, please contact us right away. Either way, we will arrange for a replacement. Our packaging is Canada Post approved and, as such, broken bottles should be very rare if ever.

What is the guarantee if I don’t like something or if a bottle is corked/spoiled?

The Adelaide Club Wine Service provides you an opportunity to discover new flavours, to taste new varietals and to drink wines that are ‘outside’ the commercial wines. We always choose wines that are amazing for one reason or another. However, there's always a chance that the wine is corked, spoiled or simply just wasn’t for you. If you would like to return the second bottle which has not been opened, for any reason, please contact us at 416.234.9449 or email us at [email protected] We will discuss what the options are for replacement.

Will all of my information be kept private?

Yes. All information that you provided will be kept on secure servers and strictly confidential. Credit card information is only requested over the phone at the final stage of the sign-up process. We would never sell, trade or otherwise provide your information to any party.

How to I cancel my Adelaide Club Wine Service subscription?

You can cancel at any time. Thirty (30) days notice is required for cancellation. The request can be made by email at [email protected] An email confirmation acknowledging that we received your request will be sent out. Once all the cancellation steps have been completed, another email confirming the account closure will be sent to you.
